Our Sunday
Our Saturday
Our Saturday allowed for some sleeping in as we didn't assemble at the Church till 1:00pm. Youth activities included Japanese writing and Origami lessons. This was followed by a scavenger hunt and some shopping time. The Church supplied dinner consisting of hotdogs and chips for some back home tastes. We went on a walk along the river before Church started. Mr. Caswell and Mrs. Bunkowski led in worship with our own WRCA worship band. Mr. Zacharias and the Drime teams performed excellently. Pastor Fast then introduced Mr. Michel who announced that WRCA was going to be giving out a missions trip scholarship each year. The name of the scholarship would be called The Fast Scholarship in honour of Pastor Elwyn Fast and his wife Bonnie, his brother Darryl Fast and wife Stephanie as Darryl was WRCA's first Principal, and Marvin and Ilene Fast who were the founding missionaries in Japan in connection with WRCA's home church. The Fasts felt so honoured to have that scholarship in their family's name.
Mr. Lukacin and Mrs. Bunkowski presented New Life Church with the gift of $720 raised from the Gr 9 Bake Sale!
Mr. Michel gave a great sermon encouraging us all to have less of ourselves and more of God in our lives. This was the first time in church for many of the Chukyo students... and so their journey towards salvation begins...
After Church there was some fellowship time with snacks and the students headed home with their homestay hosts.

Our Friday
Our Friday started by meeting at Chukyo High School where we had to load up the van with musical instruments. The school's boys baseball team was outside while we were packing up and were a bit shy but delighted to let our girls know they were pretty. Once packed we headed off to Hida elementary school where we met and played English games with the students. Lauren gave a great speech to the students.
The Concert band and Jazz band performed and Drime students handed WRCA / Chukyo pencils out to students. The way it works is to get more students to go to the Chukyo International Program, then more can come to WRCA and get the chance to experience a Christian home and school. If they then get saved they can go back to Japan and be a part of the Church that Pastor Fast established.
Mr. Michel then presented a plaque to their principal in memory of our visit. When we got back to Chukyo the student noticed welcome signs for each of them. They had lunch in the courtyard where they interacted with Japanese students and also took part in their PE classes. After school we went and saw some of the clubs and teams...Judo where several of the students learn to flip another competitor such as Bryn did to a 300 lbs fellow!
The Kendo club was loud and violent, and the Archery club was precise and silent. The Archery coach gave our school a special arrow to place in our school to commemorate our schools' friendship. Everyone headed back to their homestays where I hope they all sent you a nice email!

Our Thursday
Students had breakfast at their homestays and we all arrived differently for school at about 8:30am. There was a big Chukyo High School assembly in which Mr. Michel and Mr. Wada (The Principals) each spoke and Mr. Michel presented Chukyo with a plaque commemorating our visit and friendship form over 30 years.
Naomi Isak gave a wonderful speech from our students and the Japanese boys especially liked her presentation.
Mr. Caswell and the band performed two songs that were very well done even though the wind kicked up and tried to blow away some of the music sheets.
After the assembly we quickly went to a feeder Junior High School called Kasahara JHS.
We introduced ourselves and played some English Language games with them. We handed out WRCA pencils to all the kids as well as some special WRCA prizes.
After this we went to Nagoya city by bus, train, and then subway where we had our lunch, looked around, and shopped. We then headed to Nagoya Stadium to watch the Chunichi Dragons, a professional Japanese Baseball team. Our homestay students and many of their parents or families joined us at the game.
The home team lost but it was a great cultural experience and fun time to get to know the homestay students and understand how Japanese have their own way of doing things.
We are learning more about the importance of building relationships in order to help attract others to Christianity and Salvation through Jesus. Another safe and happy day with sunshine, a light breeze, and over 20 degrees in Japan!
